Playing With Color

I love finding great eye shadow colors but I rarely use them because I don't have the time to figure out how to use all the various shades on my lids.  But lately my friends have really been pushing me to create more looks and post them.  I might as well use the stuff I bought right?

Shown below is a deeply pigmented purple shadow look I did using Maybelline Color Tattoo.  I started with a sheer application of the color tattoo as a base and added two other colors for depth and dimension.  I recommend lightly applying Maybelline Color Tattoo onto your whole eyelid from lash line to just above the crease.  You can use your finger or a flat brush.  With colors as bold as these, always work gradually in thin layers.  Darker colors can be blended in the Outer V of the eye.

When using bold eye shadows I never consider my eye color...you know the whole idea that blue eyes look great with brown shadows blah blah blah!  There are no concrete rules for makeup.  So if a shade that isn't in your eye color category appeals to you, try it! Whether you have brown or baby blue eyes, don't be afraid to play with color.

Saving Money on Makeup

My mom has been getting on me lately about spending less and saving more.  As much as I hate to say this...she's right.  Recently, I took a look at what I spend the most on and its MAKEUP!  I tend to spend a lot on products that I don't even need...you know the products you buy because its a pretty color or limited edition.  Then it remains in your makeup drawer unused and still in the same packaging.  Now, I haven't completely rid myself of my favorite brands like MAC.  But I've found some more affordable alternatives that work just as well.  In attempt to save money I've been buying less makeup from department stores and more from drug stores.  I've been able to use cheaper products and still look pretty while doing so.  My more affordable look is shown below.

What do you spend the most on when it comes to beauty supplies?

Last week I had a long conversation with my coworker and she said a few things that stuck with me.  Our conversation made me realize that I let the happenings of life and work distract me from focusing on my long-term vision for self.  These distractions have caused me to either delay, postpone, or abandon the thing that I enjoy doing most...MAKEUP!  So last night I made sure to create a look and decided to share with you.  Product list below...hope you guys enjoy!

Uniprice: A Global Shopping Site Review

Spring is here and the first of the month is quickly approaching.  Which means, all of my money will be spent on a very much needed spring clothing and makeup haul. :)  We all want to spend our time and money wisely, and now a new site allows you to do both.  How do you get the most bang for your buck?  By simply shopping on uniprice.com.  Uniprice allows you to get the best price by comparing all online stores and eliminating the need to use a search engine.  It's a super easy way to shop for all of your favorite things like clothes, shoes, accessories, and even MAKEUP!   A girl can never have too much of any of those items and Uniprice makes it very simple to find whatever we want day or night.

How bout a new matte polish to go with your strappy footwear?  Well, you might want to think twice before stopping at your local beauty supply store to pick it up.  The matte nail polish look is the latest and biggest beauty trend but the polish is super hard to find.  Instead, let uniprice do the searching for you.  You can shop by product name, category, and brand - plus you'll get the lowest price.

Haven't invested the time to search for that YSL lipstick your friend has been begging for?  Rather search sooner, than later?  Well use Uniprice!  In fact, you'll get the best price on a product each time you go to shop, as prices are updated daily and new items are added two times a week.

Finally, you don't have to fret when you’re ready to do some serious shopping.  There is no need to go shopping first thing in the morning to avoid the rush of folks on their way home from work or running errands.  Shop evenings, weekends, or anytime.  The machinery (your computer) will be clean, there won’t be a line, and you don't have to get off your couch.  You can even use your mobile device.  What a great way and time to spend your money.

Thank me later,

Maybelline Vivid Lipstick Review

This weekend I wanted to go to Ulta but unfortunately I got lost (yes with a navigation) SMH.  Anywhoo, I did manage to make it to Target instead.  I've been hearing a lot about the new Mabelline Vivid Lipstick collection so I went on the hunt to look for it.  Of course there was only one color left (Electric Orange) so I picked it up and decided to do a review.

Description: "Now bright goes gorgeous, never garnish. Brighter color from our exclusive vivid pigments. Creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar."

In real life the color is gorgeous.  But for some reason that pop of color didn't translate to my lips very well.  I was expecting it to appear bolder and brighter, but the color seemed to be a little dull on my lips. It did take some layering and reapplying to get some good pigmentation.  The swatch on the lips doesn't match the tube color.  Despite the color payoff, this lipstick is extremely moisturizing and feels silky smooth on the lips.  While applying it, the creamy/velvety texture immediately made me want to rub my lips together as if I was applying a chap stick or balm.

Now on to the packaging...because what's a review if I didn't critique this as well?  I'm really a fan of the case the tube comes in.  It's neon and see through with a silver base.  However, THEY AREN'T SEALED and you can open these up in the store...ultimate FAIL!  Open yours, make sure it's untouched....maybe even dip it in alcohol if you're a germaphobe like I am!

From Left to Right: Pink Pop, Fuchsia Flash, Shocking Coral, Vivid Rose, Electric Orange, Vibrant Mandarin, On Fire Red, and Brazen Berry

Overall, not bad for a drug store brand.  It's affordable (priced from $5.49 to $7.49) and offers an array of bright shades.  You can find the entire collection at your local CVS, Walgreens, Target, or Rite Aid.  Since the collection has been out for over a month some of the colors are hard to find.  If you were lucky enough to snatch these up let me know your thoughts.

MAC and Rihanna Team Up to Create FOUR Collections

HOLY MOLY!  This news sure did bring me out of my blogging rut.  You read it right...the Grammy Award winning singer Rihanna has teamed up with MAC to create four collections that will unveil later this year.  The RiRi Woo lipstick (pictured below) inspired by MAC's Ruby Woo color, will be the first product to launch.  The entire line will debut May 4th and 5th to coincide with her Diamonds Tour.  Not only will you be able to purchase online and in stores, but at her concert as well.  There will be a special pop-up shop at the Barclays Center for all you makeup lovers that want to make a purchase!

The second of the four collections will launch sometime in the summer.  This will include two other lipsticks, a Lustre Drops shade, and a powder blush duo.  For fall, be on the lookout for four lipsticks, a lipglass version of RiRi Woo, two eye shadow palettes, and false lashes.  The holiday collection will offer nail polish, a makeup bag, and MORE lipsticks!!  Not only will her name be on the product packaging but, the superstars' signature will be embossed on the RiRi Woo lipstick case.  The four collections, also known as RiRi [HEARTS] MAC will probably be the most sought after makeup items of 2013.

Isn't this exciting?  Rihanna stays winning!  Will you be at the concert or glued to your computer to make a purchase?
