Tinted Moisturizers - Do Your Homework!

Hi dollfaces!!! A few months ago I got a facebook message on my fan page from my friend, former boss, and fellow blogger Erin :).  If you haven't already head on over to her fabulous blog Cha Cha Coconuts ..crazy, funny stories for days!  Anyways back to business...Erin needed a product to replace her current tinted moisturizer.  In order for me to answer her question, I've been experimenting with different tinted moisturizers.  My top four results are below.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer

By far one of my favorite brands of all time.  Especially if you have sensitive skin.  The tinted moisturizer really helps to enhance the appearance of skin by adding moisture, evening out skin tone as well as texture, and allowing the skin to appear most natural.  The coverage is light and dries to a matte finish.  The pump is fantastic and dispenses the perfect amount into your hands.  Comes in six shades and is available from Neutrogena for $10.49.

Physican's Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Tinted Moisturizer

I like the coverage this products gives.  It also lasts throughout the entire day.  For all my women of color beauty readers..the shades do run a little light.  Just make sure you shake it up so it applies nicely on the skin.  Organic Wear has a pleasant scent to it.  Makes me think of lavendar, citrus, herbs...somewhat of a "clean" smell.  This brand gets an extra bonus because its a GREEN product.  Available for $9.95 from Physcian's Formula.

Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer

Nice light coverage, and you don't need alot of it.  It only takes a small amount for a natural smooth finish.  I liked this because I have oily skin.  I didn't get shiny throughout the day and it left no streaks on my face.  Application is super easy.  You can apply it with your fingers or with a sponge.  Once the TM sets, it leaves the skin with a smooth, semi-matte finish.  Since the coverage is so light, I applied MAC's mineralize powder over top of it.  Overall a good product for all skin types.  Available for $30 in five different shades ( Fair, Light, Luminous, Medium, and Dark) from Sephora.

Cover Girl Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer

This fills in pores, and hides discolorations and imperfections, and makes skin look glowing and healthy.  One of the few TM's that is reasonably priced.  Great product for those who are just starting out with makeup.  Feels more like a gel on the fingers, but applies like a liquid and blends amazingly on the skin.  Weightless, sheer, and has SPF to protect your skin from the sun.  Available for $6 from most drug stores.

Do you prefer tinted moisturizer or foundation?  Like a more natural look to makeup?  I must admit that this is a nice change for me .

Erin, good luck in finding the right product.  I hope I was able to answer your question!

  1. You are such a stalker stan for Neutrogena products! I'd like to thank you for turning me into one. I think I'm going to try that Neutrogena tinted moisturizer.

  2. Really good informative article (and I love your site in general). I think that tinted moisturizers are far better and more natural than foundations and especially for the more mature woman.
